JSW Steel Ltd. expects second-half volumes to be 8 per cent to 9 per cent higher than the first six months, with price increases taken in September and October helping to offset higher costs.
The Indian steel producer also expects margin pressure to ease with efficiencies including larger blast furnaces, better raw material mix and cost management, Chief Executive Officer Jayant Acharya said.
“Costs have gone up,” he said in a Bloomberg TV interview, “but we should be able to offset this with prices and efficiencies.”
To secure raw-material supply, JSW Steel is developing coking coal mines internationally, including a 30 per cent stake in an Australian operation, as well as construction activity under way in Mozambique that is expected to yield about 11 million tons of hard coking coal, Acharya said.
